A controversial jackpot win in the US could see both the casino and the “winner” end up in court in an attempt to settle their dispute over a giant win that hasn’t been paid out.
The incident happened recently in the Lucky Eagle Casino & Hotel in Washington, when a female gambler started playing at the popular Jurassic Riches game.
As she played away, she was astonished to see how the winnings just kept racking up until she got to a massive $8.5 million (£5.6 million) prize. In total, she says that she spent about $100 (£66) to win this mind-boggling amount.
Her excitement and joy soon disappeared though, when the casino said that they wouldn’t pay out because the jackpot win must have been caused by a malfunction in the machine. They say that the game can only ever offer a top prize of $20,000 and that in the time she was playing she could only have won a maximum of about $6,000. This is a long way short of the jackpot she says that she won, of course.
Bosses at the Lucky Eagle Casino have since tried to resolve the dispute by offering the lady $80 plus a free weekend stay with free food and gambling thrown in. Perhaps unsurprisingly, she decided to decline this offer and seek legal advice. This isn't the first case of this type but the giant jackpot in question means that it is sure to attract a lot of media attention as it progresses.
