Have you ever played a few games online and wondered whether your fellow players were mainly men or women? If you have then you obviously aren’t alone in wondering about this, as the Belle Rock internet casino group recently carried out some research to see what the gender split between players is now like.
They commissioned Hitwise to check out not just their own sites but also others all across the UK online casino market. Then they compared the figures to 2007 ones to see how things have changed, and boy how they have changed.
The big news is that the number of women playing online casino games has rocketed in the last few years. In fact, it is now almost four times the 2007 level. We are now at a point where the number of female players is very nearly on level terms with the male equivalent. 48.38% of players are now female, and those people who paid attention during their maths classes will know that this means that 51.62% are male.
What Caused the Change?
So why has this drastic change come about in such a relatively short space of time? Well, it seems that the ladies feel safe and comfortable going online to play some games. While they might not have been happy with the idea of going to a land based casino and being surrounded by men and serious gamblers, many have discovered that online casino playing is a fun and light hearted sort of a way to spend a few hours.
Now, of course, we are seeing more casino sites and promotions which are aimed at female wagerers.
This looks like a smart move on behalf of the big gaming companies and could well lead to the number of female players moving past the 50% mark at some point in the near future.
So next time you are having a flutter and wonder about the other people who are on the site with you then you can expect about half of them to be female.
