Corals Adverts Shown on Kid’s Channels
Eagle eyed parents might have been confused a month or so ago when they spotted betting adverts on kids channels. A mistake by the Turner group channels led to ads for the betting group Coral being send out in morning slots on kid’s channels Boomerang and Cartoon Network.
The incidents happened on the 25th of May and in total there were 9 unintended showings of the ad between 6.42 and 8.42 and they led to 7 complaints from viewers. The TV spots in question were advertising the betting brands owned by Coral and had an image of the Incredible Hulk on it. Television watchdogs have called it a “serious breach” of transmission rules.
An Honest Mistake
However, the UK’s Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has confirmed that both the Turner group and Coral are in the clear after the mistake. The ASA has accepted the evidence given to them by both companies stating that it was an honest mistake.
The statement from the TV company said that they “apologise unreservedly” and that they have carried out a review of their “transmission processes” to make sure that that there is no repeat of this “highly regrettable incident”. Coral bosses, for their part, were reported as being “horrified” by the mistake.
The advert started off by introducing Coral gaming and the fact that it is available online and in a mobile format, before moving on to show a variety of images including the Incredible Hulk. 9pm is the time which gambling firm’s have voluntary agreed on as being the earliest time for showing their TV adverts.
