Who Will Be Mahjong World Champion?

If you have never tried the ancient game of Mahjong then now could be a good time to take an interest in it. This is because the first ever World Championship of Online Mahjong is going to take place in the coming months.

It is being organised by Mahjong Logic Ltd and will run from the 19^th of November to the 9^th of December. There will be a couple of different events running, one using the Riichi set of rules and the other using Hong Kong rules. The prize pool will be combined for the two types of game.

Two Ways to Get Involved

There are two ways of taking part in this inaugural internet Mahjong competition. The first one is to simply buy into the main events. The other one is to take part in the online satellite tournaments and try to win your way into the main events that way.

Jonas Alm is the CEO of Mahjong Logic and he said that the company is “very proud” to offer the World Championship of this game. He said that their software has been “fine tuned” and will give an excellent online Mahjong experience.

The tournament itself will be played in a straightforward shoot out format with players either dropping out or progressing onto the next round. The last round will have the best four players on the one table and the winner of that table will be the overall Mahjong champion.

If you are interested in trying out the game then it is perhaps best described as being similar to rummy, although clearly there are also many differences between the two games. It has a long history in China and requires a mixture of skill and luck.
